living in hotels across Israel, unable to do simple daily tasks like cooking an omelet, washing dishes, or packing food for loved ones. The Open Kitchen: Memories From a Home Left Behind (curator: Matan Choufan) explores their everyday objects and memories, shedding light on the reality of displacement within Israel.
The exhibition focuses on five women from The Open Kitchen Project and shows how kitchens, dining tables, and daily rituals create a sense of home that was lost. For these families, the wish to cook has become an emotional need — a way to feel connected to routines and memories. When they do get to cook, they choose nostalgic dishes: a grandmother’s soup, a fish stew recalling Shabbat dinners, or stuffed grape leaves that evoke vines at a home they can no longer reach.
